Crying out she held her arm as it hung loosely from its socket. It had been a long road through the battle in keeping her kingdom safe. She looked to her left at the still but breathing figure that spoke of her partner. He fought a valiant battle but the powerful sorcerers had proven to be too much and the young man became the unwilling victim of the vindictive woman’s blast that tossed him across the floor as if he was nothing more than a rag doll owned by a child that hated their toys. She now understood what Commander Worf in Star Trek meant by it being a good day to die. Not that she wanted to fulfill the promise of death if she held the power to protect her kingdom. It was now or never to prove that her destiny was to become that of a strong warrior that secured her place as the eldest princess of the Austrevaea Royal Family.

Not that she needed to worry too much about the state of her kingdom with everyone who lived there possessing magic powers, which invoked the people to fight to protect their kingdom. The royal family had the power to transform themselves into warriors that swore an oath to keep their people safe if the populace failed in securing protection to prevent the spoken disasters of a loss of kingdom or even worse the loss of lives.  Her eyes once again drifted to her left to the bodies of her comrades that laid down their lives to help protect her.

            Peter…

            Lucio…

            Kiele…

            Renatus…

            Yayoi…

All of them had fallen to protect their kingdom resulting in them exhausting their powers to stop the woman from stealing what she thought was the Lullaby Harp. A royal heirloom passed down from generation to generation and allowed the kingdoms to remain in balance to prevent death and destruction.

            “Uuuggh…”

She sharply turned her head to the left and saw that one of her friends were slowly getting up from the ground. The injury on his arm may have been severe but that did not stop him from getting up to resume his defense.  His dark brown hair stuck to his head as sweat glistened against the skin that peeked through his torn uniform. He limped over to her.

“Lucio what are you doing?” she questioned. “You need to get far away from here as possible or else that woman will take advantage of your injured state.”

“I took an oath to protect you, princess.” Lucio groaned using his left hand to call forth his weapon. A light blue guitar made of energy known amongst those in the kingdom as Pruy.  His silver eyes narrowed in determination and pain while he tried to lift his other arm to make sure it was functional enough to use in case they needed to attack.

“You cannot be stupid enough to attack without our help.”

The she whipped her head around and saw her friends were slowly recovering from their injuries. She had forgotten that each one of them had a fast metabolism which aided in their faster than normal healing rates.

“I cannot let all of you fight anymore, as the princess I order all of you to go into hiding.” She fell silent one of her friends placed their hand on her head gently. She locked eyes with those of the one who had used his hand to reassure yet silence her. “Renatus…”

“Princess, we were sworn to help you defend the kingdom and you’ve chosen us as your fellow warriors.” He gave a small yet almost unheard chuckle. “I believe that we’re all capable of taking on whatever this woman dishes out towards us.”

            “But what if you cannot?”

“Then we’ll die trying,” said Lucio’s twin brother. “After all we cannot just let our kingdom fall to shit because we turned tail and ran.”

“And we cannot let our people down.” the only other female warrior on the team Yayoi walked forward. “We’ll fight until the end.”

“That’s so touching but I cannot allow all of you to just walk away without parting gifts.”

All of them snapped their heads up at the sound and looked around as the atmosphere suddenly became dark and sinister. The heavy fog that covered the kingdom became heavier and lighting struck throughout the clouds making the darkness in them react in an almost twisted sinister way.

“We’re not going to let you win witch!” Shouted Kiele almost instantly calling forth his weapon. “You want to destroy our way of life and kingdom? I won’t let you have the satisfaction of it!”

Running forward he leaped into the air throwing both his boomerangs towards the woman. He gave a small smile of satisfaction when he was sure it had struck the woman before his own weapon knocked him out of the air and thrown across the pavement into a nearby tree.

“Kiele!” Shouted Lucio running towards his brother. “Are you all right? Speak to me!”

“She’s too strong…” Kiele groaned before losing consciousness.

“What a pathetic attempt at a defense…” The woman laughed wickedly. “Now I am going to ask all of you pathetic warriors again…where is the Lullaby harp?”

“We’ll never tell you!” The princess spat.  “We’ll die rather than give it to you!”

“You want death? So be it!” she shouted raising her hands as dark power circulated around her fingertips. A large sphere of dark energy began forming and it seemed she had marked the defiant princess for death. “You’ll join those that chose to defy me!”

The princess let out a loud scream as the ball was thrown at her. However, she felt no pain nor did she feel the burning of her skin and hair at the attack. A cool breeze brushed against her cheeks. Opening her eyes, she looked up and saw that she was being carried.

            “Peter…”

The young man known as Peter at the last second woke up and ran over to pick her up before the attack took the life of his princess. However, he knew he could not outrun the oncoming attack that was engulfing their home.

“Everyone put up a protective barrier now!” He barked.

“But Peter we don’t know if it’ll work!” Renatus spoke up.

“Do it damn it! If anything we can protect the princess so she won’t lose her life!”

“All right…” Renatus looked at his fellow comrades. “It’s been a pleasure working with all of you.”

Everyone nodded in unison. They held up their hands as the white light surrounded their bodies and a large orb of light began surrounding all of them.

The large wave of dark power washed over the land exploding a sea of devastation that wiped out everything in its path.

Opening her eyes, the princess looked around the land. She saw that everything was now dead, desolate and destroyed. The palace that was once her home was gone and everything was still silent. She saw the land littered with the bones of her people. However, what was more tragic was that she herself could not prevent it from happening.  She saw through the large orb of light that in a circle around her were her friends. They all remained standing and in concentration of their sole mission of protecting her.

            “Everyone…” she whispered.

Peter was the first to open his eyes and saw the destruction around them. His resolve fell but his power did not. He looked down at the princess giving her weak smile. “Princess…you’re safe.”

“But our home has been taken from us.” The princess whispered.

“Then we’ll go off on a quest to find a way to restore it.” Peter glanced at the others who had seen the destruction. Despite them hiding their sadness in favor of keeping a strong front for their princess...he could see that all of them held a pained look of loss.

“We need to go find out why that wicked woman came here to destroy our home,” Lucio spoke up. “There is no way that she should’ve gotten here without anyone trying to stop her.”

“I believe that maybe Abeiron may have failed in keeping that woman from invading other kingdoms,” Kiele said. “The King of Onen has shown signs of not being himself in the past few years.”

“Then that’s where we’ll go,” Renatus said. “We’ll go to Onen and question the king to know why he allowed for this attack to happen.”

“And if he was the one who called it then we’ll have no choice but to go to war with the kingdom.” Yayoi narrowed her eyes holding back the tears threatening to fall. “For vengeance of our families that died at their hands.”

“I don’t believe the king is behind this.” Peter looked at his friends. “Before we go to Onen we’ll need to seek shelter somewhere else until we train to become powerful enough….”

“Where will we go?” asked the princess.

“We’ll go to Chronophontia where I am sure that Athena has no reach to hurt anyone.” Peter picked up the princess. “Everyone let’s go our journey starts now.”

This is a short story that I wrote back on July 31, 2016, for one of my literature courses. I found this file on my college flash drive and I was like this story is too amaze to pass up on posting! Funnily enough, I had gotten an A on the assignment and I am glad to share it with you guys!
